Jan 18, 2007: Stocking up on sunshine
Today's sunny weather provided us with a lot of solar power for the batteries of "sun21".
Today, there was no spectacular sunrise and the whole sky was cloudy in the morning. The sea was so wild that we had to skip the plankton ritual. But soon, the cloud cover dissolved and we had a very sunny day with a lot of solar energy for the batteries of "sun21". The fishing part of our expedition has so far consisted in collecting flying fish that landed on deck and in giving them back to their sea. Just now, an especially big fish landed next to our cabin window and had to be given back to his element wrapped into a towel because it was very slippery.
We usually eat twice a day individual breakfast in the morning. Dinner in the evening consists of two shifts, one for meat eaters and a vegetarian one. A selection of menus will be presented soon in a film.
Tonight at 2 a.m., we will be half way between Las Palmas and Martinique, half time of our Atlantic crossing.

Herzlichen Dank für die letzten Beiträge, die auch vieles über Euer Leben an Bord aussagen. Es ist sehr gut, zu zeigen, dass auch die absolute Abhängigkeit von Photovoltaik-Strom trotzdem modernen Komfort (Unterhaltungselektronik, Kühlschrank etc.) erlaubt.
All die Tiere, die Euch umfliegen und umschwimmen, müssen ja allein schon allfällige Verzichte (etwa auf Früchte und Gemüse, weil Ihr den letzten Auftankstop ja weggelassen habt) aufwiegen. Und schon seid Ihr auf der andern Hälfte ...!

Nach ein paar Tagen stärkster Stürme über Deutschland ( Orkan) möchte ich Euch bei eurer Reise sonniges Wetter wünschen. Wie es aussieht läuft alles sehr planmäßig und das Wetter ist auch gut.Was man ja von hier( Berlin) nicht sagen kann.
